One of the most impressive buildings in Budapest has to be the State Opera House on Andrássy Street. Building work was completed in 1884 under the architectural eye of Miklos Ybl one of Hungary's most famous sons. Its renaissance style exterior and interior are truly breathtaking. The ceiling of the three-storey auditorium, for example, is decorated with the works of Károly Lotz - the world famous Hungarian painter. The building rivals its counterpart in Vienna for sheer awe-inspiring beauty. Tickets for performances can be purchased from the main ticket office inside the building (open most days from 11.00 to 17.00); costs range in price from as little as 500 HUF to as much as 10,000 HUF (about 40 EUR).
